William & Mary students are not ready for rent ready.

Rent Ready is a new proposal from the City of Williamsburg designed to improve off campus student housing. The current proposal lacks the ability to meaningfully improve student quality of life off campus.

here's the Problems.....

  • No Change to the 3-person occupancy rule

  • Mandatory classes for students

  • punitive consequences for student behavior

No Change to the 3-person occupancy rule

The current proposal does NOT meaningfully expand the number of unrelated students able to live in off-campus housing. Any proposal supportive of students must fully remove the 3-person "brothel" rule, and allow at least one legal tenant per bedroom.

Mandatory classes for students

The current proposal would mandate, "good neighbor" classes for off-campus students, taking time and demeaning students in the process. Any proposal that is supportive of students should include proactive resources to strengthen our neighborhoods. Not patronizing mandatory classes.

punitive consequences for student behavior

The current proposal contains steep punishments for students and the landlords of respective students in violation of local ordinances. Any proposal supportive of students will not increase the already steep punishments for noise, trash, and parking.
